Clinical Research and Quality Improvement NetWork News

A message from CHEST

As was recently announced, CHEST 2021 is moving fully online after an extensive review of the present and potential conditions affecting in-person participation. We learned from last year’s online meeting and are ready to do it better all over again. We hope you will register today to join us!

Note from the NetWork Chair

CHEST 2021 will be held online, October 17-20. I look forward to meeting you all virtually at the annual meeting.

Our NetWork’s business meeting this year will also host a featured lecture by Matthew Churpek, MD, PhD, on, “Using Machine Learning to Improve Outcomes in Critical Illness.” I invite you to attend the NetWork business meeting and the featured lecture. This is a great way to engage with our NetWork and learn about new innovations in medicine.

Our NetWork has been very active at CHEST with numerous session proposals, submission of CHEST Physician® articles, and participation in other CHEST activities. It’s your participation that helps to disseminate knowledge and to grow and highlight our NetWork.

Looking forward to reconnecting with you all at a highly educational and fun CHEST 2021!

Chitra Lal, MD, FCCP
Chair, Clinical Research and Quality Improvement NetWork

I am a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Ohio State University College of Medicine and have been a Pediatric Pulmonologist and Allergist-Immunologist located at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, for more than 20 years. My background is in clinical research, with a focus on both pediatric asthma and cystic fibrosis. I have been honored with the Distinguished CHEST Educator award for the past 3 years. I am also Chair of the Pediatric Chest Medicine NetWork, which helps me to develop partnerships between NetWorks for both educational and research projects.

I am honored to be a part of the Clinical Research and Quality Improvement NetWork, since research is essential for improving quality of life and patient care. As a NetWork member, my goal is to play an active role in improving collaborations between NetWorks and in developing content for CHEST Annual Meetings. It also enables me to mentor and promote fellows and young faculty. The NetWorks provide opportunities for young faculty and fellows to learn and collaborate, which helps advance academic careers and research projects.
