Interstitial and Diffuse Lung Disease NetWork News
A message from CHEST
As was recently announced, CHEST 2021 is moving fully online after an extensive review of the present and potential conditions affecting in-person participation. We learned from last year’s online meeting and are ready to do it better all over again. We hope you will register today to join us!
Note from the NetWork Chair
The Interstitial and Diffuse Lung Disease NetWork Steering Committee has been busy. We have worked with the CHEST 2021 Scientific Program Committee and the Council of NetWorks to create exciting content for the upcoming meeting. There will be some of our usual staples along with an update on the mind-boggling issue of post-COVID interstitial lung disease.
Also, take note that our NetWork Featured Lecture will take place online and will be held on a date separated from CHEST 2021 in order to allow more people to attend. Our lecture title will be, “Pulmonary Fibrosis: The Genetic Clinical Pathologic Paradigm?” and will be held on Thursday, October 7, at 3 pm CT. Mark your calendars!
As of this writing, we are speeding into the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic after some weeks of relative reprieve from the anguish we have all suffered over the past 18 months. Thank you all for what you do. We look forward to brighter days, and reconnecting with colleagues at the online CHEST 2021 is something to look forward to! I for one can’t wait.
Best,
Daniel Dilling, MD, FCCP Chair, Interstitial and Diffuse Lung Disease NetWork

Dr. Brad Bemiss is an Assistant Professor in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois. He was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. Twice a year, he makes sure everyone knows this—the first Saturday in May (Derby Day) and during March Madness. His primary clinical interest aside from interstitial lung disease (ILD) is in lung transplant medicine. His research includes active clinical trials in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), ILD, and COVID-19. Dr. Bemiss was instrumental in Loyola's application and acceptance as a Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation Care Center. Along with patient and IPF advocate Jose Vazquez, he founded Loyola's Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group, which just celebrated its 3-year anniversary.
Dr. Bemiss joined the Interstitial and Diffuse Lung Disease NetWork in 2020 in order to continue to develop a culture of collaboration in the ILD community. He is passionate about fellow and resident education and was recently appointed as an Associate Program Director of Loyola's Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship program. He has enjoyed his time in the NetWork, already collaborating with members on various topics, including a discussion of interstitial lung abnormalities at the annual meeting in October.
