News From the NetWorks

Note From the NetWork Chair…

I am excited to share with you that our Clinical Research NetWork's name change was approved by the Board of Regents during its January 25-26, 2019, meeting. Our new name is the Clinical Research and Quality Improvement NetWork. The idea for the name change was introduced during our business meeting at the CHEST 2018 Annual Meeting and was unanimously supported by all steering committee members. This change reflects the frequent overlapping nature of clinical research and quality improvement. It further addresses the expanding interest of the health-care community at improving quality of care, as well as provides a dedicated platform at CHEST.

On behalf of my NetWork, I would also like to invite you all to attend our NetWork Open Forum at CHEST 2019. Our steering committee deeply values the input of our membership and is always looking for ways to improve our engagement and deliver educational content that is most relevant to you. Attending a business meeting is also a great way to learn more about your NetWork activities, getting involved in NetWork projects, and potentially serving on the steering committee in the near future. I look forward to seeing you all at our NetWork Open Forum.

Muhammad Adrish, MD, FCCP
Chair, Clinical Research and Quality Improvement NetWork

Get to know your Leadership!

Shahid Sheikh, MD, FCCPI am a Pediatric Pulmonologist/Allergist & Immunologist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Associate Professor at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. My interests are asthma and cystic Fibrosis. Over the years, I have been involved in many academic pediatric and pulmonary organizations but always struggled to find my place.

Almost 8 years ago, I presented my work at the CHEST Annual Meeting and found it to be very welcoming and open, even though I am not an adult pulmonologist or critical care person. The annual meeting was very educational with the right balance between clinical and bench research. Since then, my interest in CHEST has increased over time. I have presented my work almost every year and have tried to pay my dues by becoming more active in education and administrative areas.

Currently, I am a member of the Clinical Research and Quality Improvement NetWork Steering Committee, Vice-Chair of the Pediatric Chest Medicine NetWork, and member of the Scientific Presentation and Awards Committee. I try my best to be actively involved and bring the flavor of pediatrics and allergy/immunology to my adult pulmonary/sleep/critical care colleagues. I am honored to be a part of this wonderful and diverse organization. Through my experience in clinical, education, research, and administrative arenas, I am committed to make it shine even brighter every day.
