There have been a lot of things happening at CHEST recently. The organization has done an extremely fast pivot to change the scheduled in-person Orlando meeting into a virtual meeting. (I live in Florida, and with the present COVID-19 situation here, this was absolutely the correct decision!) While some presentations were already scheduled for pretaping, thus allowing later viewing for our members, a lot of other presentations have now had to either pretape and/or get ready for a live online presentation. Sounds simple, but it isn’t! CHEST has done an expectational job transitioning this year, as the 2020 meeting provided them with the experience to do so. Don’t worry, all your educational needs will be met as usual (except not having to brave the heat/humidity/COVID of Florida)!
Meanwhile, the Respiratory Care NetWork, and especially the steering committee, have responded to several CHEST requests for educational content (see below).
Also of note in the CHEST-RC world: The National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) has asked CHEST to help facilitate a survey regarding a Pulmonary Educator Credential. You can take that survey here. If enacted, this credential will be across professional organizations (not just for RTs!)—and for those who may “scoff” at credentials, remember how many of your hospitals have sought out to hire credentialed PFT, sleep testing, and NICU personnel, etc, who are then highlighted to show the institutions maintaining the highest standards for patient care.

COVID-19 resources
“In my position as Medical Advisor to the Florida Society of Respiratory Care (FSRC), I have often shared the CHEST educational resources with that society. The infographics are especially pertinent, concise, and easy to understand. Very impressed at how many of the FSRC members were already aware and using the information! Below you will find curated content to help you during the pandemic. For more information like this, explore the COVID-19 Resource Center.” - Thomas Fuhrman, MD, MS, FCCP.
Sharpen your COVID-19 knowledge with the new CHEST Player Hub game, Defeat COVID-19, developed by the CHEST COVID-19 Task Force. Answer questions about COVID-19 symptoms, diagnosis, and management to score power-ups on the game board and advance your score.
