It is hard to believe that the first quarter of 2021 is at an end. As pulmonologists and intensivists, this has been one of the most difficult periods in modern history. As vaccination is slowly turning the tide and allowing us to spend time with family and friends once again, we also recognize that the pandemic continues to ravage other countries. There are many lessons to be learned and knowledge to be shared. Despite imposed clinical struggles, the Thoracic Oncology NetWork has continued to work with our mission statement in mind— “to bring together the multidisciplinary community interested in thoracic malignancies with the goal of providing outstanding education for our professional community and patients; advancing the field through clinical, translational, and basic research; and promoting the delivery of cutting-edge, evidence-based care to our patients.” Ours was one of three NetWorks selected for a CHEST pilot project by the NetWorks Task Force. With this, we established three subcommittees: Twitter Handle, Infographics, and Key Opinion Leaders. You can find the infographics and interviews with key opinion leaders on our NetWork’s page.
We are midway to the next annual CHEST conference in Orlando, Florida, October 17-20. We do hope that we will be able to see many of you in person as is allowed. Please remember this is your NetWork! If you have an idea for a project or something you’d like to see at CHEST 2021, please let us know. The strongest NetWorks have large, active memberships. So, if you have a colleague interested in thoracic oncology who isn’t involved in the NetWork, invite them to join today!

Get to know your members: Jasleen Kaur Pannu, MBBS
I am an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Director of Interventional Pulmonary Translational Research at Ohio State University Medical Center (OSUMC). Early diagnosis of lung cancer and overcoming disparities in lung cancer care are a passion. My current area of focus is developing a comprehensive lung nodule program at my institution. I completed my Interventional Pulmonary Fellowship training at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in July 2018. I aim to build high quality research and quality improvement core at OSUMC in the evolving field of interventional pulmonology (IP). For the last several years, I have been closely involved as faculty with CHEST. I became engaged in CHEST leadership as Co-Chair for the Thoracic Oncology NetWork Twitter Handle Pilot, and I also work closely with the Interventional Chest/Diagnostic Procedures NetWork.
Biomedical engineering and medical innovation intrigue ;me, and I keep thinking of new ways to improve our “tools.” I believe social media is one such useful tool if used wisely and can connect medical professionals worldwide like none other.
Outside of work, I am a food lover and food critic extraordinaire. My unique talents include assembling furniture bought online in record times, solving puzzles like a pro, and coming up with innovative ways to prank my husband, which I believe deserve to go “viral.”
I was born and raised in India, and I deeply value my multicultural upbringing. In the current hard-hit times for India, as it deals with its devastating COVID-19 surge, I am working toward consolidating efforts to assist back home in collaboration with other Indian American physicians.
