Interstitial and Diffuse Lung Disease NetWork News
Note from the NetWork Chair
For certain, this has been a terrible 12 months for our patients and for all of our lives, but I am hopeful that as vaccines become more widely available, a long-awaited control of the pandemic is coming. That said, we are still only beginning to understand how COVID-19 affects patients with various ILDs, and we are struggling to understand the chronic lung disease that can result from severe COVID pneumonia (whether it is an ILD and how to manage it). These will be among the topics explored at CHEST 2021, which will be held in Orlando, Florida, October 17-20, both in person and online. Whether you will join in person or virtually, be sure to set the time aside now so that you can make the most of the meeting.

Get to know your leadership: Sean Callahan, MD
Dr. Sean Callahan is an Assistant Professor in Pulmonary and Critical Care at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is originally from rural Virginia and is trying hard to find acceptable Southern food in the Mountain West. His clinical and research interests are in ILD and e-cigarette-associated lung disease. Sean is a co-investigator and sub-investigator in several studies at Utah, including trials for IPF, ARDS, and EVALI. Besides loving his job, Sean particularly enjoys teaching fellows in the ICU and clinic.
With CHEST, Dr. Callahan joined the Interstitial and Diffuse Lung Disease NetWork in 2020 with an interest in promoting education for providers, particularly fellows and other trainees, and seeing patients with ILDs. One of Sean’s interests in the NetWork is improving care for patients with ILD in the VA system. He is very excited to meet other members of the NetWork and the CHEST community.
